I think this means that these things are such polar opposites that they depend on each other indefinitely. You can't have one without the other so that makes them the same.

"He who knows the past knows what will happen again," is a quote I have heard all of my life. I think what this quote expresses is that history repeats itself. In my opinion it isnt history that repeats itself; simply human nature.
